Hi Lovely Conference goers!! This page is to inform you of all the post-conference occurrences. The Queer People of Color Collective sincerely hope that you had a fun and exciting experience at the conference. We hope the space we created was sufficient enough for you to express yourself freely as a queer person of color. Thank You very much for your ongoing participation and support.
If you are interested in hosting the 5th Annual Queer People Conference at your university please email qpocc2009@gmail.com! Organizing the upcoming Conference entails that you start (seemingly) from the ground up. (New theme, new ideas, new organizing committee, etc.) But luckily for you UCD and UCB are here to help! Simply email qpocc2009@gmail.com and we will go from there!

Queer Tours: Big Idea Conversation Series April 14th-May 7th
Members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) communities often find the biological argument for civil rights distasteful and even disingenuous. While demographers, survey researchers, and economists consider the conceptual frameworks that create various portraits and arguments about LGBTQ communities and its needs, legal and social movement theorists struggle to build a vision for liberation that connects LGBTQ people to a broader movement for justice.
This panel will explore the costs of moving away from a biologically determined sexuality as a central argument in the fight for LGBTQ equality.
The tour features Dr. Jaime Grant, Director of the Policy Institute, and Kenyon Farrow, Policy Institute Fellow.

Self Defense @ UCD April 15th
Greetings APIQs and APIQ Allies,
The second meeting of the quarter will be held this Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at 6pm. The location is Olson Hall #206.
Come down and learn how to kick someones butt if they pick a fight with you. (just kidding ^-^). This is solely a workshop for self-defense purposes. Be ready to discuss, share opinions, think about scenarios, etc. If you are willing to share some stories about harassment or times in which self defense was necessary that would be really helpful for us.
Thank Julienne and Sing from the WRRC for helping us to facilitate this awesome workshop. Since this is a rare occasion, I would like a decent turn-out for this meeting. By all means, please do come if you can. Thank you so much for your time.

Camp Courage in Oakland May 2nd-3rd
Camp Courage is hosting a weekend training in grassroots organizing centered around marriage equality. Our camp is produced by the Courage Campaign, a statewide progressive alliance created to offer organizing tools and education for activism, and the goal is to empower individuals to understand that we can each make a difference in this movement. Modeled after the organizing model used in the Obama campaign and the United Farm Workers, Camp Courage is about engaging individuals from diverse communities to share our stories and find our commonalities regarding this struggle, and then training them in the skills necessary to take action. Camp Courage is a weekend in community building, and it is designed for the new activist, as well as the seasoned veteran.
The Courage Campaign is committed to including communities of color in this powerful training weekend, as the more people at the table, the more coalitions we build in our activism, the stronger our movement.
Please join us for our Bay Area Camp - May 2 and 3 in downtown Oakland. http://www.couragecampaign.org/BayArea
*Training is only $10 for the weekend (which includes continental breakfast, and lunch each day too). This fee can be waived for anyone who needs it or anyone who simply requests a waiver at the provided email address (given when you register online)*
